Context & The Enterprise Challenge

Jindal Stainless (JSL) is the 4th largest stainless steel producer in the world. Operating massive metallurgical complexes, their factories consume huge amounts of energy. For global metal traders and buyers, tracking competitor utilization, plant shutdowns, and regional output variations requires immense coordination.

Standard market updates rely on voluntary disclosures and delayed regional customs files, which lack the frequency and granularity needed to inform strategic decisions.

Project Ambitions

During our scale demo, LaGrand aimed to validate its satellite-based energy footprint pipeline under high-volume enterprise requirements.

  • Verify furnace activity signals over massive industrial complexes.
  • Assess competitor capacities globally without deploying physical hardware.
  • Demonstrate clean integration of real-time operational data into C-level platforms.

Furnace Signal Isolation at Scale

LaGrand set up and customized a 3-month demo instance of its analytics platform for JSL. The system uses thermal infrared satellite bands to isolate heat signatures from furnaces and processing lines, bypassing surrounding ambient temperatures.

Remote Tracking: Zero On-Site Effort

Because the data is captured via satellite, LaGrand can monitor any facility worldwide remotely. The platform needs only a digital map of the target site to begin tracking workloads, requiring no on-site installation.

By analyzing changes in heat output over time, the system estimates active capacity levels. This helps traders identify supply trends before they are reflected in official indices.
