CKW Solar Sales-Navigator
How CKW (Axpo Group) uses satellite-based solar PV mapping to generate sales-ready lead lists and track clean energy adoption.
Context & The Sales Bottleneck
Rooftop solar (PV) sales teams traditionally spend significant time manually scanning satellite photos on Google Maps to find buildings that lack solar installations. This manual lead qualification is slow and restricts sales reach. To run efficient campaigns, installers and utilities need high-frequency, rooftop-level datasets that detail exactly where solar panels are already installed and where opportunities remain.
Without automated targeting, clean energy installers struggle to optimize territory planning and track competitor market penetration over time.
Project Ambitions
Stemming from a feasibility study with CKW (Axpo Group), LaGrand set out to build an AI model that automates rooftop solar mapping.
- Classify building rooftops as "solar installed" vs "no solar yet".
- Deliver qualified lead lists of non-solar roofs directly to CRM software.
- Provide sales teams with territory planning and competitor adoption data.
Rooftop PV Classification
The platform processes high-resolution satellite imagery on a weekly schedule (under 7 days), mapping rooftops and adding address and location data. This analysis allows sales teams to easily identify untapped opportunities and target high-potential properties.
CRM-Ready Datasets
The model classifies rooftops and outputs a clean dataset enriched with basic building attributes. This file integrates directly into CRM systems, territory planning software, and sales pipelines.
By avoiding manual Google Maps research, sales representatives can focus their efforts on the highest-potential streets and regions.

Results & Validation
The project demonstrated that satellite data can automate sales targeting for utilities:
Eliminated Manual Research
Sales managers no longer need to verify buildings manually on map tools, saving hundreds of hours of manual work.
Targeted Campaigns
CKW sales representatives can prioritize postcodes with the highest share of non-solar roofs and design highly focused marketing campaigns.
